Kang Daniel’s first album: Color on Me

After the lawsuit, Kang Daniel ran to fans with gratitude and a much-anticipated album, Color On Me.

Epic first week sales

News of Kang Daniel finally re-debuting as a soloist reached fans. With everyone hyped to finally hear from him again, pre-orders of the album skyrocketed! On its 1st week on sales, Kang Daniel’s first album Color on Me managed to sell 460,701 physical album sales.

Kang Daniel received initial chodong record from Hanteo Chart. That is a feat as it was difficult to sell that much even for most group acts let alone for a rookie soloist.

Gaon Chart also gave Kang Daniel’s first album a double-platinum certification for selling more than 500,000 copies!

Album for fans

Kang Daniel said his first album is dedicated to the fans. The album has the following songs: Through the Night (intro), Color, What are You Up To?, Horizon and I Hope. He penned most of the songs and has choreography for 4 out of the 5 songs.

The title song was What are You Up To (WAYUT) which he said was the feeling he gets when waiting for a shoe he bought online to be delivered :).

WAYUT Music Video

The solo artist won the case against his former agency around the time of Color on Me release. The court ruled that in no way can LM Entertainment stop him from any activity as an artist. Unfortunately, Korean media seem to avoid broadcast with celebrities while in the middle of a lawsuit. As a result, Kang Daniel’s first album was not properly promoted as a regular idol could.

Regardless, the song was able to grab a win from Music Bank.

During the end of the year awards, WAYUT grabbed the Best Music Video award from the 2019 Melon Music Awards (MMA).

The meaning behind the video

WAYUT is a big easter egg. As Kang Daniel’s first album and first song after the whole lawsuit, it told a lot about what he went through.

More to that in another post. 🙂
